Volunteer
We’re fortunate to have many dedicated volunteers – but we always need more! Most of our volunteers commit to working for an hour or more on a weekly schedule, while others work occasionally as substitutes or on special projects and events. Companies and civic groups also volunteer with us as a way to give back to our community.
“Volunteering with Meals On Wheels is very meaningful in my life. We have a wonderful group, committed to our important purposes of delivering nutritious meals and a safety check to our recipients.” Jan C.
“I get more than I give – a wonderful sense of satisfaction in helping people who so very much appreciate our service. I am inspired by the light-hearted compassion and commitment of fellow MOW volunteers.” Deb D.
“I enjoy donating my time with such a great group of people. Knowing I'm helping to make an affordable meal for someone who is not able to prepare their own meal is comforting.” John D.
“My Mother was a recipient of MOW, and I felt volunteering was an opportunity to give back to my community. Working with the volunteers brings a sense of camaraderie in a common goal.” Beth S.
We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities through each of our kitchens:
-
Kitchen worker. Help prepare food and pack-up meals for delivery. Most kitchen volunteers work a scheduled shift one morning per week. Cooking experience is helpful but not required.
-
Driver. Use your own vehicle to deliver meals on a regular route one day a week at mid-day (exact hours vary by kitchen). Drivers sometimes bring along a “hopper” to take meals from the car to the door. Delivery routes usually take an hour or less to complete.
-
Substitute. Rather than work on a weekly schedule, you can substitute occasionally when regular kitchen workers or drivers need to take time off.
-
Special events worker. Help represent our program at bake sales, fund raisers, outreach efforts, community events, parades, and more.
-
Administrative help. Volunteer for one of our committees or put your special skills to use in clerical, technology, publicity, photography, accounting, social services, or other support.
